Weight loss is big business. The demand for weight loss products is huge.

Overweight and obesity is a major health problem in America. Indeed, one in four Americans are considered to be overweight or obese. Obesity is the main predisposing factor for a variety of medical conditions including angina, hypertension, diabetes, stress and depression.

At least 65 % of overweight individuals have tried one or more methods to lose weight, however only 23% of these succeed in achieving lasting results.

These results speaks for themselves and it means only one thing, that a large quantity of weight loss products and diet programs available doesn’t work. Who’s to blame for this is? Is it the people or is it the products? Well, in my opinion it is unreasonable to blame the consumer for a faulty product, that said it is also important that the product is used correctly. However, if so many people fail to utilize the product (in this case weight loss products and various diet plans) in the right way in order to achieve the promised results it might be wise to consider changing the product to fit the needs of the consumer. This is how a good diet plan needs to be planned out, it should be manageable and it should provide lasting results. However, it’s no secret that long term benefits for overweight people does not equal long term benefits for the weight loss industry. This is probably why many weight loss products are actually designed to fail in the long run. The economic aspects totally overshadows the main purpose. Which in the end should be to produce lasting results and improve health. Sadly, but naturally this in not the main motivation for marketers in the weight loss industry.

The majority of people in the United States are overweight. A number of them are obese or close to it according to recent studies. Obesity increases threats of colon problems and heart disease. If you are one of these people, you should not feel alone.

If you are searching for a weight loss program that will work as well as a way to keep the weight off and stay healthy once you get to your goal, consider research that has been done on the topic. Most cardiovascular surgeons and dietitians agree on the importance of a diet high in fiber and low in fat. That means a lot of fruits and vegetables and a lower amount of fat can keep you healthy and in the weight range where you would like to be.

The research that led to the agreement on the importance of a high fiber diet has created an interest in vegetarian diets. Vegetarian diets are not a fad diet though. Those who are on these diets have taken on a new life-style of being vegetarians. And the life-change pays off. Those who live a vegetarian lifestyle have noticeably lower death rates from illnesses and are generally in better shape.

There are a number of different styles of vegetarians. Here are some of those vegetarian varieties.

•	Strict vegetarians or vegans – Avoid all animal products. This is not just meat and milk, but also items such as honey. Their diets consist of protein from seeds and beans, plant based fats, and fruits, vegetables and grains.
•	Raw vegans – In addition to taking part in a vegan diet, raw vegans also eat foods in a raw form, meaning these foods come in their natural form and are not treated. Many parts of a raw vegan diet would be sprouted grains, untreated plant fats, and living as well as fermented foods.
•	Lacto-ovo vegetarians – Not all vegetarians avoid all animal related items. Lacto-ovo vegetarians think consumption of milk and eggs are ok. That is where the name came from dairy – ‘lacto’, eggs – ‘ovo’
•	Pesco- and pollo-vegetarians – Some vegetarians still eat some kinds of meats in limited quantities. Pesco-vegetarians believe in addition to a high in fruits, vegetables and beans diet that adding some fish in is alright. Pollo-vegetarians believe that some chicken is an acceptable addition to their otherwise completely vegetarian diet.

So, why does a vegetarian diet work so well to lose weight and keep it off? The answer is simple. Since the majority of the foods that are accepted on a vegetarian diet are very low in calories you can still have large dishes of food without the high caloric intake price. That means you can fill a plate, fill your stomach, and still keep your calorie count low, and help control your appetite, which will lead to weight loss.

But you can’t just eat as much as you want on a vegetarian diet. While most of the foods are very low in calories, there are still some that can cause you to keep the pounds on and even add a few here and there. If your vegetarian diet is filled with items made with coconut oil or other vegetable oils, the fat content in those ingredients can keep you from losing weight. That’s why it’s important to focus on the high-fiber fruit, vegetable and grain items on the vegetarian diet.

If you have been on the weight loss merry-go-round for too long, or just would like to start a healthier life, a long-term change of your diet may be the answer. With proven positive health effects it is a common sense solution. But even if a full vegetarian lifestyle is not for you, adding more high-fiber foods into your diet can be a big boost to your overall health and send you on the path to weight loss.

Vincent Vegan and Marc Sage offer a weekly podcast discussing all of the ongoing things in the diet and weight loss world – we focus mostly on Low Carb and Vegetarianism but we discuss everything – here is something I found on the internet that I thought you guys might enjoy! The world’s most beautiful and famous have swallowed his advice. He wrote one of the biggest selling diet books of all time, and it was based on his extraordinary belief that you could eat as much as you desire and still lose weight. His name was Dr Robert Atkins, author of the Atkins new diet revolution. To some Dr Atkins was a hero, to others his diet was scientific heresy and potentially deadly. In a series of ground breaking experiments Horizon investigates the truth behind the most controversial diet in history. Does the Atkins diet really work and is it dangerous?

Round and round the diet merry go round.. Do you sometimes wonder if it’s even worth the trouble? Wait.. Before you give up, have you tried having you diet food delivered? This popular alternative to ‘old school dieting’ makes losing weight easier than ever.

How does diet food delivered work?

Just as the name implies, your meals are delivered to you.. no more food shopping (with all the temptation that entails).. forget cooking, cleaning up afterward, portion control, calorie counting, and all the rest that goes with traditional dieting.

With food delivery services, you eliminate about 99% of stress-related dieting.

The “Stars’ use food delivery services:

You’ve seen Marie Osmond’s dramatic weight loss with Nutrisystem… Genie Francis with Medifast, and the star list is practically endless with Fresholgy diet delivered; Jennifer Lopez, Ricki Lake, Lil’Kim, Melanie Brown, Holly Robinson Peete, Katey Sagal, and more.

You have to ask yourself… when the stars can afford to use any diet out there, why do they choose to have their diet food delivered? They do it because they know they have a significantly better chance of sticking with a diet if it’s actually delivered right to their doorstep.

How much weight can I lose?

You can lose as little as 10 pounds, all the way up to hundreds of pounds. The great thing is, you lose the weight you want and then go on one of the many maintenance programs to keep it off! All the food delivery services have different maintenance plans to put in place once your desired weight is obtained, so don’t worry about that.

Sounds great… but can I afford it?

Prices vary greatly. You have food plans that deliver complete meals, as well as meal replacements, extravagant gourmet… lots of variety, so you’re looking at a wide range of price fluctuation.

See our comparison chart that breaks down cost and diet plans of the most popular food delivery services on the market.

Negativity is a diet breaker! If you focus on positive thoughts, develop a positive attitude and if you are rewarded when you succeed, you’ll increase your chances of successful weight loss many times over.

Remember when you were in grade school and the teacher put a gold star on your paper? Remember the pride you felt? Remember how it strengthened your resolve to do even better so you’d get another gold star? That kid is alive and well, living in your subconscious mind and she still wants another gold star!

It’s so totally human! We want…even EXPECT…a reward when we do well; when we win, when we reach a goal or achieve an ambition…or lose weight.

Hold it right there! Get a REWARD when you lose weight? How is THAT going to happen?

Some weight loss groups give small achievement awards to members who lose weight. TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly), for example, gives small, colorful charms to those who are the “best loser” each week.

But you don’t have to go out and join a weight loss club in order to be rewarded for your weight loss achievements.

You can reward yourself…and you should reward yourself!

Dieting isn’t exactly what anyone would describe as a group activity or a team effort. Successful dieting is a lonely one-man or one-woman job. Achievements come slowly and no one really witnesses your daily successes. Nobody pats you on the back and says, “well done” when you stay within your daily calorie/carb/fat allowance.

There are several ways you can reward yourself, inspire yourself to continue your diet and encourage yourself to do even better than you have done.

You can make up your own rewards, of course. There’s only one rule…no reward can be a food reward! Food is what caused your weight problem. It’s NOT a reward.

Here are a few self-presented weight loss reward ideas:

1. Go to your local discount department store (Wal-Mart for example) and look on the school supply aisle. You’ll find books of stickers…some might even contain gold stars. When you do well, award yourself a gold star. (Put it in your weight loss journal. You DO keep a weight loss journal, don’t you?)

2. Reward yourself with a small gift when you have reached a weight loss level (5 pounds lost, 10 pounds lost, etc.)

3. Reward yourself with pampering when you’ve done well (a day at the spa, a bubble bath, a manicure, etc.)

Rewarding yourself for your weight loss successes will help you stay the course and thus reach your goal weight!

It’s a general accepted idea that through exercise and proper diet we can lose weight, improve our shape and get healthier. There is nothing wrong with that, but there are also other ways which makes us look thinner. And one is – use proper clothing!

But how do I dress myself to look thinner?

1. Use monochrome clothing

Monochrome clothing means using only one color for your whole outfit. This is a great trick of most of the fashion editors and stylists. For example, two colors break the body in half, though looking like the a lighter color for your bottom makes you look heavy. One, for example black or darker color, creates a longer, leaner look. And if you must wear two colors, use the darker color for your bottom and the lighter, for your upper body.

2. Blend shades of the same color

Here is another amazing tip which will make you look thinner. Use different shades of the same color. For example stone brown to coffee brown. Or use a scale of greys, like perl gray to slate or charcoal. And remember again here, use the lighter colors for your upper body!

3. But if I still want to mix colors?

Alright, you can do that too, but with great caution. You really should only use darker colors. Those color make you look thinner. Use colors like mink brown or charcoal gray, maybe also deep forest green and of course black. Everything should flow from head (lighter) to toe (darker color).

4. Some final tips to improve looking thinner

Skirts Skirts should be longer than they are wide. Use fuller skirts, because they look longer and better, but beware that straight skirts look better shorter. Hem lines look better when they reach the narrowest part of the calf. But avoid really long skirts, because they will make you look older than you really are. If your buttocks look heavy, avoid pleats – they add pounds to your shape.

Jackets One general rule for jackets – use long-line, single-breasted jackets with hidden pockets. Also do not use belts or bulky pockets or anything that draws attention to the midriff.

Pants Wide bottom pants are a no-no here. They will make you look bigger than you really are. Use well-cute, tailored pants without pockets or with hidden pockets.

You should also consider not comparing yourself to movie stars or supermodels, which in general look thinner on TV. That is because a lot of people, especially women feel depressed about they appearance. Hope these clothing tips will make you feel better about yourself, but you should never forget to use proper diet combined with 3 times per week exercise, for about 30 minutes which will help you look healthier, thinner and more happy!

Lets take a look.

I think you already know what I’m talking about.

Here you are, ten pounds lighter, enjoying the happiness of being able to tell everybody that all your efforts were rewarded, when suddenly…YOU STOP LOOSING WEIGHT.

Frequently there are still those final pounds you need to get rid of, the most stubborn ones.

What the @&%(#!

The Plateau effect has been known for about twenty years as the phases where the body “refuses” getting thinner. It’s as if the metabolism enters a slow-motion phase. Even reducing calories and increasing physical activities don’t seem to work.

It usually comes when you reach a 10 to 15% of weight loss.

Some causes may be:

- Overestimated goals: you have no need to loose weight and your body is awear of this.

- Less exercise: Maybe you didn’t notice it, but you may have diminished the time or frequency of your workout.

- Doing only aerobics: It’s known that weight exercises are an essential complement to any fitness program.

- High restriction diet: Some people fail to eat enough! Too many hours without food are equally bad for your metabolism.

Your body has a memory and all your glands, subcutaneous fat cells and digestive system are programmed to respect what they thin it’s a health weight.

The problem is that the fashion magazines keep pushing in on what THEY think it’s as ideal weight.

Your metabolism has hundreds of years of “experience” in hunger and disease, since the cavemen. It gets scared when you try to eat fewer calories and start to “save” for the future, by slowing the consumption.

This is not bad; it’s a defense mechanism that has protected a lot of pregnant women and entire ancient civilizations from dying during winters and wars.

Now we have plenty of food (In some countries. Thank your lucky stars for),microwave ovens and tasty marvelous carbohydrates. With the abundance of food, we don’t need that defense anymore.

But you will just have to accept it.

These tips will help restart your metabolism:

- Change and increase your activity: You can exercise up to five times a week with a sixty minute program. Ask your Personal Trainer for orientation and avoid ultra-low calories diets if exercising.

- Start resistance training: Use weights to create more fat- burning muscles.

- Drink more water: Water is an essential catalyzed for a lot of biochemical reactions in your body, don’t overlook it.

- Reassess what and how much you are eating: Never skip breakfast, and try to stick with a three or four hour maximum interval between meals. Is your calories table accurate? Are you really counting everything? Desserts too!

Don’t forget that sometimes your weight is stationary, but in reality your organism has replaced fat with muscles. This is good, but doesn’t show in the scale! Only the fat percentage exam can show this.

Avoid weighing yourself around the menstrual period. It’s a hormonal mess and frequently causes overestimation of your weight.

Always empty your bladder before, and weigh only in the morning.

The plateau effect is a matter of “WHEN”, not “IF”.

It WILL happen, but the closer you get to your healthy weight, the least important it will be.

With television shows like “The Hills” and “90210″, teens are looking at their favorite star, and wondering why their body isn’t like the actors and actresses on these shows. They look at these people as their idols, and want to look and be just like them. It is important to educate our teens on the dangers of certain diets, and what it takes to lose weight in a safer, and more health conscious way.

A teen’s healthy diet plan shouldn’t be any different than any average adult. The right foods combined with a good fitness plan can help mold their body into a fit and healthy form.

Education: Start by educating yourself. Find out what a proper diet and fitness plan for your teen should consist of. Speak to your family physician; see what he or she feels is the right course of action. Ask about a dietitian, a dietitian can help plan a menu that will be conducive to the type of lifestyle your teen leads. Also, educate yourself about fad diets, and eating disorders.

Make a Plan: You then need to find out your teen’s intentions for themselves. Do they want to lose a large amount, or just drop a few pounds to fit into that prom dress? Whatever their intention, make sure to sit down with them and discuss goals, and timeframes. They are not going to lose 50 pounds in a week, make sure they realize this. Use what you have learned to set up a plan that will work for them.

Family Fun: Once you have set into place a plan, the next step is to do it. Make it a family activity, take walks together after dinner. Set up activities that involve everybody. Go to the park, on a hike, or a leisurely bike ride. Whatever you choose, do it as a family and enjoy yourselves.

Just remember, teens, just as any other child learns from what they see. In these formative years, it is important to teach our children what is right and wrong. A healthy lifestyle instilled into the mind of a growing youth can stay with them for the rest of their life.

Our bodies are amazingly complex. Evolution has imbibed a sort of self preservation into them. So try to starve it and what happens? The body thinks ‘hello, foods a bit short here, lets slow down metabolism a bit to see it through’. After a while you think ‘this diet is not working’ so start eating more again. Body chips in ‘I knew it wouldn’t last, speed up again and for good measure, whack a bit of fat storage on the tummy in case they try it again’.

That is just what happens. Dieting leads the body to preserve energy during a diet and store more energy (fat) afterwards. You can’t win. Dieting makes you fatter. There is plenty of proof for this phenomenon. Not least the personal experiences of nearly everyone. If diets worked well we would all be stick insects by now, not ‘thin people’ in pear shaped bodies!

But, I hear you say, everyone says to lose weight you have to diet. No, that is the standard patter given out by the doctors, nutritionalists, health workers and myriad others. All of whom have read the same books no doubt. Their idea is simply this: If you are eating more than you need you will put weight on. So eat less and you will lose weight. Simple.

For them. They’ve earnt their daily bread, where does that leave you?

Still overweight, feeling hungry, depressed and totally frustrated with not having a sylph-like figure.

Well, enough of this rubbish. Lets try to put things in perspective. And bear with me if you don’t agree with every point, it’s the overall picture that is important and will give you real results.

First, please don’t give yourself false hopes and targets. We are constantly bombarded with images and videos of the movie stars and ‘celebs’ parading their new thin bodies in front of us. The magazines sell their clothes and cosmetics with the ‘body beautiful’. Even the Government constantly pushes how we are all over-eating and will get this disease or that problem if we do not stop it. It all adds up to extra pressure. The average person is nothing like a celebrity. Have you noticed how they all make a fitness or weight loss video? I bet they don’t mention how you need the cosmetic surgery as well to get ‘the look’!. Have respect for what you are.

We all put some weight on as we get older and that is a fact of life. Accept that at least as a fact of life.

Next point is that whatever weight you are, you can lose some. More easily than you think. Without dieting. How?

You need to change you mind set. Your behavioural patterns. For instance, don’t have that pack of crisps or chocolate from the petrol station on the way home. Dont think if the kids leave a bit that you will just finish it off. Don’t go along with everyone else in the family – if they all want a chip meal, yoy may not. Stick up for yourself. If you feel like a salad or pasta, have one!

Current thinking is that there is a lot of additives in everyday food that cause a major amount of trouble for people. Additives that can be avoided. Chemicals and toxins from pesticides and fertilizers are a major hurdle to your health. Avoid them wherever possible. These chemicals in our diet make you fat and make you feel bad. Dump them and you will lose weight without trying. Think healthy and natural. My advice is to eat organic wherever possible. The supermarkets are now stocking a much wider range of organic produce than ever before.

Remember my earlier comments about your body altering to cope with low calorie intakes? Well, fool it! Eat your normal food (but organic), reduce quantities a little, balance it up by including some high fiber ingredients. Your body wont even realise you are cutting down.

In addition increase your mental and physical activity. You dont have to go weight lifting. Just walk instead of using the car sometimes. Climb the stairs a few times more. Play a round of golf. Walk the dog. It doesn’t have to be a drag. Use you brain, occupy yourself. An active person with many things to do doesn’t have time to think about food so much.

In summary.

Don’t worry too much about dieting. Weight loss is more a state of mind. Get the right attitude and de-toxify your body by going organic. Natural weight loss will follow. Purge your old lifestyle and bring on the new you.

Long ago in my high school days, I was a distance runner. Running’s still one of my favorite sports today, but when people ask me if they should try running to lose weight, I usually advise them to try other things first.

Running can be an incredibly rewarding activity, and it certainly does burn a lot of calories once you’re in good enough shape to do it regularly. What most non-runners don’t realize, however, is that running is one of the most demanding sports. It might seem easy to just get outside and start running around, but in reality, you’re requiring your entire body to remain in motion for long periods of time with no breaks. When you first start out, this is a major challenge for your muscles, spine and cardiovascular system, and it’s often difficult to run for periods of time that will burn a significant number of calories.

New runners are also prone to foot and leg problems unless they are very careful, especially if they have a few extra pounds. To avoid shin splints, collapsed arches, and other problems, a prospective runner need to start slow-only jogging for small periods of time and taking days off in between. The net result is that while you toughen up your body over time in a lot of ways, you really don’t burn a lot of calories in the beginning.

A better approach than just hitting the track every day is to start with very small amounts of jogging, and change your metabolism in other ways. By restructuring your diet, you can change your metabolism in a matter of days without risk of injury or fatigue. A dieting technique called calorie cycling enables you to increase your metabolism while still consuming the same number of calories every week. The net result is that you burn fat quickly while still eating the foods you like.

The most popular calorie cycling diet on the market is FatLoss4Idiots. It comes with a risk-free guarantee and customers report that it helped them lose 9 pounds or more in only 11 days. FatLoss4Idiots is an incredibly effective and fast-working approach to weight loss, and it’s safer than running when you’re first starting out.
